Study In Australia
The Australian Government has recently announced two major updates for international students in Australia. These updates will significantly impact international students and further support them in finding the right career after graduating.
- Firstly, the government has announced a two-year extension of post-study work rights for international graduates. This two-year extension of post-study work rights will apply to international graduates with select degrees under verified skill shortage. According to this announcement, the extension will provide an additional two years of stay to eligible international higher education graduates with a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485). Furthermore, this extension is in addition to the existing one to two years of work rights for eligible students who study, live and work in regional areas. The government has also released a list of eligible occupations in demand and the related qualifications that are eligible for the extension.
- Secondly, the government has also announced an increase in the working hour cap for international students. This working hour cap is increased from 40 to 48 hours per fortnight. This cap will be reinstated on 1st July 2023, increasing the allowable work hours cap.
Both the changes will be applicable from 1st July 2023 for international higher education graduates with eligible qualifications. This latest announcement by the Australian government will greatly benefit international students.
