The U.S. Department of State has revealed some updates for international students seeking to study in the U.S.
The first announcement concerns the updated processing costs for student visas. From May 30, 2023, the U.S. Department of State expects to raise visa processing costs. The cost to apply for a visa at an American consulate abroad will rise from $160 to $185. With this modification, the non-immigrant F-1 and J-1 visas will be impacted.
The second update addresses the DS-2019 Electronic issuance. The U.S. Department of State has announced that the state will allow digital signatures and the electronic issue of DS-2019s for J-1 students beginning on April 27, 2023. Previously, the programme sponsors had to mail paper copies of this Form to potential exchange visitors. J-1 students will now have the same option to receive an electronic form as F-1 students, thanks to this digital shift.
The US Government has issued a revised timeline for evaluating and processing F-1 visa applications from student visa applicants. International students can apply for an F-1 visa up to one year before their academic term commencement. Previously, the deadline for submitting their application was 120 days before the commencement of the academic term.
